Call for Posters

AOAC INTERNATIONAL invites you to submit an abstract for Poster Presentation at the 2018 Annual Meeting. 

Poster Topic Categories

  • Analysis of Foodborne Contaminants and Residues 
    (Naturally present or produced DURING processing (e.g. heavy metals, PSP, acrylamide, 3-MCPD) but not something that is administered by man, such as pesticides or veterinary drugs)
  • Analysis of Non-Foodborne Contaminants and Residues 
    (Includes all externally added contaminants (e.g. pesticides and veterinary drugs) but NOT natural toxins like Mycotoxins or PSP)
  • Authenticity & Food Fraud 
    (Methods to determine truthfulness of identity of ingredients in foods and to detect deliberate fraudulent actions on foods)
  • Botanicals and Dietary Supplements 
    (Methods to developments related to botanicals and dietary supplements)
  • Detection and Measurement of Natural Toxins 
    (PSP, Mycotoxins)
  • Environmental Analysis
    (Posters related to both chemical contaminants and microbiological issues with regard to the environment.  The environmental areas of interest should not be limited to just water or wastewater analysis, but include other areas of the environment such as soils and air quality)
  • Food Nutrition and Food Allergens
    (Nutritional methods, GI, Food Allergen methods and issues)
  • General Methods, Quality Assurance and Accreditation
    (Quality Assurance and Accreditation; and any methods that do NOT fit in ANY of the other categories)
  • Microbiological Methods 
    (Microbiological methods for food and the environment)
  • Performance Tested MethodsSM
    (Validated methods for programs requiring increased confidence and method reproducibility information)

Poster Abstract Submission Instructions

  1. Pre-Register for the Annual Meeting:
    At least one of the poster authors must pre-register for the AOAC Annual Meeting in order to gain access to the poster submission web site.

  2. Confirmation and Access for Abstract Submission:
    Once you have registered, check your email for your pre-registration confirmation. Within the email confirmation, you will be granted the URL to submit your poster abstract online. 
  3. Log-In Procedures for the Poster Abstract Submission Site:
    After accessing the Submission Site, you will be directed to log in as a new user, to create a new account.

NOTE: The username/password for the submission site is NOT your AOAC account login/password.  The submission site uses separate login credentials.

New and Returning Users:
To submit a poster abstract to AOAC you must register as a new user. Click on “Create Account” and follow the directions on the site. After the account has been created, you will receive a ‘Confirm your Account’ email. Please open and confirm. Once confirmed, you can start your abstract confirmation submission.

All abstracts must be submitted via the online submission site.

Abstract Withdrawal

Abstract withdrawal requests must be submitted no later than July 8, 2018 to avoid publication.

For inclusion in the Preliminary Program.

Pre-Registration Deadlines for Poster Authors

At least one of the poster authors must pre-register for the AOAC Annual Meeting in order to gain access to the poster submission web site.

Poster Authors Pre-Registration Deadline: June 29, 2018.

Application may take 2-3 business days to process.

Preliminary Program

The Preliminary Program will be available online to the Association’s constituency in mid-June, and provides an overview of the Annual Meeting and a preview of the technical program. Poster abstracts submitted and confirmed by May 8, 2018 will be listed in the Poster Presentation section of the Preliminary Program.

Final Program

The Final Program will be distributed to all Meeting registrants upon check-in at AOAC Registration booth in Toronto, Canada. It will include a full abstract listing and author index for all Poster Presentations at the Annual Meeting.

Contest for First-time AOAC Poster Presenters

This contest is to encourage active participation of attendees to showcase their analytical work in the relevant areas of fields of research that fit the scope of AOAC.

  • AOAC-TPC (Technical Programming Council) will appoint a panel of judges representing expertise from diverse areas of analytical communities of AOAC.
  • The posters will be evaluated on the basis of content, oral delivery, discussion with presenters (Q/A) and overall formatting during the author's presentation time at the meeting. Eligibility to participate will be limited to first-time poster presenters only.
  • The top five posters will be awarded plaques. The names of the winning presenters and first authors will be announced during the Annual Meeting at the AOAC Business Meeting on Wednesday, August 29, 2018.
  • Winners will be published in the 2018 November/December issue of Inside Laboratory Management (ILM).
  • In order to enter the contest, you must first register for the Annual Meeting. Once registered, you may submit a poster presentation through the online submission site. More details regarding the contest are located on the submission site.

Notice of Final Poster Acceptance

All Poster authors will be notified of their acceptance for presentation at the Annual Meeting and inclusion in the Final Program by July 25, 2018. A final poster listing, including assigned poster numbers and detailed presentation information, will also be made available by July 25, 2018.

Official Meeting Language

The official language at the AOAC Annual Meeting is English.
