The Analytical Solutions Forum

The AOAC INTERNATIONAL Analytical Solutions Forum (ASF) is a collaborative “idea incubator.” It is a mechanism for global stakeholders from government, industry and academia to identify emerging needs for scientific analysis of food and other related products and to propose actions to address them. It also serves to identify emerging technologies that can be adapted through standards development and certifications for use in supporting them.

The ASF is a meeting place where issues, ideas, opportunities and views can be exchanged. It is a venue for stakeholders with diverse perspectives and backgrounds to share technological advances, discuss knowledge gaps, and lay the foundation for collaboration among peers in the applied analytical science community.

The ASF has rapidly become the cornerstone of the AOAC Midyear and Annual Meetings. The goal of the ASF during the Midyear Meeting is designed to introduce and triage new ideas. Under the advisement of the ASF Steering Committee, one to three topics will then be further developed and presented at the Annual Meeting for potential adoption as AOAC projects or full programs.

As an “idea incubator,” the ASF also represents a new year-round, program development format for AOAC and its stakeholders.  Proposals provided to the ASF Steering Committee through continuous outreach to our broad spectrum of stakeholder communities—in addition to those emerging themes and issues discussed during the Midyear and Annual Meetings—represent another avenue for program development.

The Analytical Solutions Forum is intended to provide for greater stakeholder engagement and communication among scientists, regulators, researchers, and AOAC's science leadership. Such expanded integration and cross-fertilization of ideas and needs among participants from diverse communities and areas of expertise will stimulate rapid and impactful analytical solutions to the most pressing food, feed and environmental needs.

The Analytical Solutions Forum Steering Committee

The ASF Steering Committee serves as a scientific advisory body to evaluate and prioritize proposals that arise through both meeting and outreach formats. Their assessments are based primarily on program and project development potential, including priority, greatest need, stakeholder interest and public health impact. The ASF Steering Committee Call for Volunteers for 2019 is currently underway.

The 2019 Analytical Solutions Forum at the Annual Meeting

The theme of the upcoming 2019 AOAC INTERNATIONAL Annual Meeting in September is “Analytical Tools for Emerging Agricultural Products” and it will focus on two specific areas: Botanicals and Herbal Supplements and Biostimulants and Soil Amendments. Stakeholders will identify areas of analytical need and provide a framework for potential program development to be discussed during the afternoon plenary session. Attendees will also have the opportunity to attend a “Lunch and Learn” session to hear more about the key elements of the ASF format and how it will help drive new program development.
