The dietary supplements community is working collaboratively to identify and prioritize ingredients and develop voluntary consensus standards. SMPRs for the following will be considered for adoption: Echinacea, Ginsenosides in Ginseng, and SAMe. AOAC is scheduled to launch Acai, Kavalactones, and Resveratrol.

Since 2010 the global infant formula community has worked to advance priority nutrients through AOAC's standards development processes, from the development of standard method performance requirements (SMPRĀ®), to systematic method review by an Expert Review Panel, and approval of First and Final Action Official MethodsSM. The community is currently working to advocate global understanding, acceptance, and use of SPIFAN methods, including the continued submission of methods for adoption by the FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission as Type II dispute resolution methods. Simultaneously, a new working group has been launched for the determination of 2-monochloro-1,2-propanediol (2-MCPD), 3-monochloro-1,2-propanediol (3-MCPD) and glycidyl esters (GE) in infant formula, draft SMPRs will be reviewed for approval on September 23, 2017.

AOAC is bringing the food industry together to lead the charge to develop much needed standards and methods that promote food safety, food security, and facilitate trade. SMPRs for the following will be considered for adoption: Pesticides in Cannabis, Cannabis in Food, and BPA in Beverages and Water. AOAC is scheduled to discuss Vet Drug Residues and Sugar Analysis for working group launches.

Stakeholder Panel on Alternative Methods (ISPAM)

ISPAM is focusing on method harmonization guidelines for microbiological assays and developing voluntary consensus standard method performance requirements (SMPRĀ®) for food allergen methods. Currently ISPAM has two working groups (WGs). One WG on Food Allergen Assays is developing SMPRs for egg, milk, peanut and tree nut, mustard and celery allergens. The second WG on Gluten Assays is developing an SMPR for Gluten in Oats.
