Corn Products International Joins as New OA

From reducing risk exposure to one’s brand to expanding one’s business or simply being a part of AOAC’s leadership circle, each member of the AOAC Organizational Affiliate (OA) program has its own reason for joining. Corn Products International (Westchester, Illinois, USA), an ingredient supplier company using corn as its main raw material and turning it into a wide range of products from sweeteners to adhesives, realized the benefits of partnering with AOAC in its validation efforts.

AOAC provides science-based solutions by bringing together major stakeholders to develop, evaluate, and validate consensus-based analytical methods--which is exactly what could help Corn Products. The company belongs to the Corn Refiners Association, which publishes analytical methods for wet-milled corn products. Corn Products also produces other ingredients which don’t fall under that category, and so the company needs to develop and validate methods on its own.

Chuck Mally, Director of Analytical Services at Corn Products International and a member of AOAC for 20 years, realized that the Association could be a valuable partner in such validation efforts, and he looked into the OA program. Mally went to the company's Vice President of Technology to make a case for OA membership, and it was clear that it made sense for Corn Products to become an OA. Now, the company is AOAC’s newest OA, joining in early 2008.

Indeed, AOAC offers real benefits to a company like Corn Products, with a number of employees needing to reference methods and laboratories involved in methods development for various ingredients. In addition to the benefits mentioned above, ten individual memberships come with OA membership and the opportunity for 25 company employees to access the Official Methods of Analysis Online.
