AOAC and its partners are leading the effort to develop voluntary consensus standards that are globally recognized and accepted. The second annual “AOAC INTERNATIONAL Mid-Year Meeting” is scheduled for March 20-22, 2012, in Rockville, Maryland, USA.

International authorities, leading experts, and other appropriate stakeholders from industry—representing some of the world’s foremost test kit manufacturers and multinational food companies--government, academia, and standards developing organizations, among others will have a voice in driving method priorities and developing internationally accepted standards for new and modern analytical methods in the areas of food, alternative method testing, and biothreat detection.

International Stakeholder Panel on Alternative Methods (ISPAM)

Chaired by Russ Flowers (Mérieux NutriSciences Corp.), to develop harmonized, internationally accepted standard validation schemes for chemical and microbiological analytical methods for food testing

Stakeholder Panel on Strategic Food Analytical Methods (SPSFAM)

Chaired by LouAnne Blanchard of Kraft Foods and Arti Arora of The Coca-Cola Co., to work toward consensus in developing standards in the priority areas of antioxidants, surveillance methods for food/food ingredients authenticity (pure identity) and conformity, economic adulterants, flavanoids, ingredients, food allergens, heavy metals, and emergency response

Stakeholder Panel on Agent Detection Assays (SPADA)

Supported by DHS, to build a standard program for the development, validation, and use of threat agent detection technologies with a goal of developing an enduring national capability
