Call for Methods for Evaluating Efficacy
of Disinfectant Towelettes and Wipes
AOAC INTERNATIONAL, under contract with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is seeking available protocols for evaluating the efficacy of disinfectant towelettes and wipes. The goal is to develop a standardized, validated approach to towelette testing.
Protocols should:
- Be written in procedural format;
- Document well-developed methods that are currently in use and practical for laboratory-scale testing;
- Use commercially available supplies;
- Include qualitative or quantitative assessment with specific claims for treating surfaces against pathogenic microorganisms;
- Include information on the management of the towelette (number of wipes per slide, description of wiping technique, etc.)
A workshop to discuss and share technical information on test methods for disinfectant towelettes is being scheduled for later this year.
Deadline for submission of protocols is April 17, 2009. For additional information, contact Maria Nelson, AOAC Technical Consultant, at mnelson@aoac.org
