Call for Tissue Residue Methods for Avilamycin, Nicarbazin, and Apramycin;
Experts Needed for ERP Opportunity

AOAC has embarked on a global effort to identify tissue residue methods for the determination of animal health drugs: avilamycin, nicarbazin, and apramycin. The methods assembled will be reviewed by an expert review panel (ERP), and a candidate method for each drug will be selected by the ERP for further evaluation and validation (single laboratory and multilaboratory). Methods will be used to facilitate international trade and satisfy regulatory requirements.

AOAC seeks methods with the following attributes:

      Applicable to muscle, liver, kidney and fat
      Recoveries, depending on concentration, should lie in the range of 60-110%
      Confirmation of analyte identity is required, either as part of the method or as a separate confirmatory method

In addition, for avilamycin, methods are needed for the analysis of the marker residue, dichloroisoeverninic acid (DIA) in animal tissues from swine, chicken, turkey and rabbit, and the analytical range should cover 25-600 ppb (ng/g). For nicarbazin, methods are needed for the analysis of the marker residue dinitrophenylcarbanilide (DNC) in tissues from poultry, with analytical ranges of 100-400 ppb (ng/g) and 2-70 ppm (μg/g). For apramycin, AOAC seeks methods for the analysis of apramycin in animal tissues from swine, cattle and poultry with an analytical range of 25-1000 ppb (ng/g). Methods for these analytes in other tissue matrices and species are welcomed for consideration.

Method Submission

Interested parties (industry, government, and academia) are invited to submit tissue residue methods for the above animal health drugs, including a summary of any validation data available, to Bob Rathbone, AOAC senior director of methods validation and publications, at rrathbone@aoac.org by July 23, 2010.

ERP Opportunity AOAC invites all experts in animal drug tissue residue methodology to join its pool of experts for veterinary drug residues, from which ERP members will be selected. CVs may be submitted to Bob Rathbone at rrathbone@aoac.org.
