J. AOAC Int. to Feature Special Section on New Planar Chromatography-Densitometry Methods for Determination of Drug Substances and Formulations
The May/June 2010 issue of the Journal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL will feature a Special Guest Editor Section consisting of 11 papers on “New Planar Chromatography-Densitometry Methods for Determination of Drug Substances and Formulations.”
The special section was co-guest edited by Jan Krzek, Jagiellonian University, and Joseph Sherma, Lafayette College. Krzek says, “This special section provides relevant and up-to-date information important for the drug industry, researchers, and all who are involved in pharmaceutical drug control.”
The Special Guest Editor Section includes the following contributions:
- “Review of HPTLC in Drug Analysis: 1996–2009,” by Joseph Sherma, presents a review of HPTLC methods for substances, formulations, and clinical samples developed and validated on HPTLC plates and published during the period 1996–2009.
- “Validated HPTLC Method for Simultaneous Quantitation of Paracetamol, Diclofenac Potassium, and Famotidine in Tablet Formulation,” by Laxman D. Khatal, Asmita Y. Kamble, Mahadeo V. Mahadik, and Sunil R. Dhaneshwar, describes HPTLC methods that have been developed and validated for the determination of the above-mentioned drugs both as bulk drugs and in tablet formulation.
- “Chiral Separation of Diastereoisomers of Cefuroxime Axetil by High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography,” by Monika Dąbrowska and Jan Krzek, discusses conditions for the separation and determination of these drugs by TLC and densitometry.
- “Determination of New Antidepressants in Pharmaceuticals by Thin-Layer Chromatography with Densitometry,” by Taťána Gondová and Iveta Petríková, describes a new and simple TLC method with densitometric detection that was developed for the simultaneous separation of two noradrenergenic and specific serotonergic antidepressants.
- “High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatographic Determination of Etoricoxib and Thiocolchicoside in Combined Tablet Dosage Form,” by Vivek S. Rajmane, Santosh V. Gandhi, Upasana P. Patil, and Mahima R. Sengar, presents a new HPTLC method that was developed and validated for the determination of the drugs present together in tablet dosage form.
- “Stability-Indicating High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatographic Method for Quantitative Determination of Omeprazole in Capsule Dosage Form,” by Preeta Jha, Rabea Parveen, Suroor A. Khan, Ozair Alam, and Sayeed Ahmad, describes a TLC method that was developed and validated for the analysis of omeprazole capsule dosage form.
- “Effect of Radiation Sterilization on Alprenolol in the Solid State Studied by High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography,” by Barbara Marciniec, Magdalena Ogrodowczyk, and Anna Kwiecień, discusses the possibility of radiation sterilization of alprenolol by HPTLC.
- “Development and Validation of a Reversed-Phase High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography-Densitometric Method for Determination of Atorvastatin Calcium in Bulk Drug and Tablets,” by Atul A. Shirkhedkar and Sanjay J. Surana, presents an RP-TLC method that was developed for the determination of atorvastatin calcium both as bulk drug and pharmaceutical formulation.
- “High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography and Three-Dimensional Image Analysis for the Determination of Rutin in Pharmaceutical Preparations,” by Florin Soponar, Augustin C. Moţ, and Costel Sârbu, discusses the separation of rutin carried out on silica gel with attached amino groups as the stationary phase and ethyl acetate–formic acid–methanol–water (10 + 0.9 + 1.1 + 1.7, v/v/v/v) as the mobile phase.
- “Development and Validation of an HPTLC Method for Determination of Olanzapine in Formulations,” by Rashmin B. Patel, Mrunali R. Patel, Kashyap K. Bhatt, and Bharat G. Patel, describes a new HPTLC method that was developed and validated for the determination of olanzapine.
- “Validated HPTLC Methods for Quantification of Mexiletine Hydrochloride in a Pharmaceutical Formulation,” by Rafał Pietraś, Robert Skibiński1, Łukasz Komsta, Dorota Kowalczuk, and Ewa Panecka, presents two HPTLC methods that were established and validated for the determination of the drug in pharmaceutical formulation.
