AOAC INTERNATIONAL Harvey W. Wiley Award Information

HARVEY W. WILEY AWARD

AOAC INTERNATIONAL's most prestigious scientific award, the Harvey W. Wiley Award, is presented to a scientist (or group of scientists) who have made an outstanding contribution to analytical method development in an area of interest to AOAC INTERNATIONAL. The Harvey W. Wiley Award was established in 1956 to honor Dr. Harvey W. Wiley, who was instrumental in the institution of laws regulating food quality. Dr. Wiley was a founder of AOAC INTERNATIONAL and served as AOAC President in 1886, Secretary from 1889 to 1912, and Honorary President until his death in 1930.

Recipients of the Harvey W. Wiley Award receive:

A cash award of US$5,000;

An award bearing an appropriate testimonial, presented at the Annual Meeting;

Expenses incident to attending the AOAC INTERNATIONAL Annual Meeting at which the award is presented; and

The opportunity to discuss their area of expertise during the Wiley Symposium at the Annual Meeting.

Nominations for the Award:

Any interested person may submit nominations for the award. Nominations are submitted on forms available from the AOAC INTERNATIONAL office, or on the AOAC web site. Nominations must include biographical data, a bibliography of publications, clear evidence of the significance of the nominee's work in relation to furthering analytical methodology, and in the case of re-nomination, updated material. Nominations will be considered automatically each year for up to four years after first received.

Nominations are accepted year-round. However, to be considered for a particular year's award, all materials must be received by the AOAC INTERNATIONAL office no later than January 31 of the previous year. Previous recipients of the Harvey W. Wiley Award are not eligible for a second award.

The Selection Process:

The AOAC Harvey W. Wiley Award Committee selects the recipient. If no suitable candidate is identified, no award is made.
