AOAC Honors Dr. Mike Quilliam*

We are very pleased that Dr. Michael Quilliam, Principal Research Officer, Institute for Marine Biosciences, National Research Council of Canada is receiving AOAC's highest award, the H. Wiley Award. Mike is being recognized for his many contributions to the development of analytical methods and reference materials for phycotoxins. For our part, we in the Task Force can also be grateful to Mike for making many suggestions and contributions to this group in its first year. We will all benefit from this recognition and already have: Due in part to these honors, we will have a marine and freshwater toxins symposium next September at the Orlando, Florida AOAC Annual Meeting (September 11-15, 2005). One day will be devoted to a symposium Marine and Freshwater Toxins: Quality Methods for Public Health and International Trade which will follow Dr Quilliam's half-day Wiley Award Symposium. The award symposium will address phycotoxins and also reference materials. Information regarding his award will be formally issued by AOAC next month.
