Statistical Manual of the AOAC

W.J. Youden, E.H. Steiner

Do-It-Yourself Statistical Techniques for Interlaboratory Collaborative Tests

This manual is a composite, with revisions, of two publications—Statistical Techniques for Collaborative Tests, by the late W.J. Youden and Planning and Analysis of Results of Collaborative Tests, by E.H. Steiner. The manual is to be used in the statistical analysis of the results of interlaboratory collaborative tests such as those required by AOAC INTERNATIONAL before adoption of analytical methods as AOAC® Official MethodsSM.

The Youden portion, written as a "do it yourself" manual for those who have little or no experience with formal statistics, presents simple and flexible statistical techniques. It uses examples related to familiar questions concerning the significance of apparent differences among results.

The Steiner section presents guidelines for planning collaborative tests and introduces the analysis of variance technique with examples of how it may be used with interlaboratory tests.
