AOAC INTERNATIONAL is seeking five subject matter expert volunteers to become members of its Expert Review Panel (ERP) for Ethanol in Kombucha Methods to review submitted methods published as Official Methods of Analysis of AOAC INTERNATIONAL being proposed for Final Action consideration.

Membership in this ERP is an opportunity to participate and lend your expertise and experience to the AOAC Official MethodsSM Program in evaluating methods for the characterization and quantitation of ethanol in kombucha beverages. The ERP will use the AOAC Standard Method Performance Requirements® (SMPRs®). Current Scope of the AOAC ERP for Ethanol in Kombucha

Through AOAC’s standards development processes, the voluntary consensus SMPRs for the Determination of Ethanol in Kombucha, AOAC SMPR 2016.001, was approved. The ERP was formed in 2016 and has reviewed and adopted four methods as First Action Official Methods of Analysis. Methods are now being proposed for Final Action consideration and additional ERP members are needed.

Eligibility for Expert Review Panel Membership

All applications will be screened and submitted to the AOAC Official Methods Board, who will vet the candidates and form the ERP roster. Ideal candidates for ERP Membership must:

  1. Submit an application including brief statement of experience and a two-page CV or resume
  2. Have experience and/or expertise in at least one of the following, but not limited to:
    a. Analysis of ethanol in food and/or beverages
    b. Analysis of kombucha beverages
    c. Analytical chemistry methodology for analysis of foods and fermented beverages
    d. Analytical method development for ethanol in beverages
    e. Analytical method validation
    f. Current research on characterizing and quantitating ethanol
    g. Varying analytical techniques related to characterize ethanol in beverage processing
    h. Food science
