DEADLINE: October 31, 2019.
AOAC INTERNATIONAL invites method authors and developers to submit relevant methods that may meet the AOAC Standard Method Performance Requirements® (SMPR®) for Furan and Alkyl Furans in Coffee, Baby Foods, Infant Formula, Cereals, and Fruit Juices (Draft, Version 6). Submitted methods will be reviewed by an AOAC Expert Review Panel for consideration of AOAC First Action Official Methods of AnalysisSM status. Methods adopted as AOAC First Action Official Methods by the Expert Review Panel will be published by AOAC INTERNATIONAL.
The objective of this call for methods is to collect relevant methods that may meet AOAC’s SMPR for quantitation of furans and alkyl furans in coffee, baby foods, infant formula, cereals, and fruit juices. All submitted methods will be subjected to evaluation by an AOAC Expert Review Panel, who will review them for potential AOAC First Official Methods of AnalysisSM. Any resulting approved/adopted Official Methods of Analysis may be used as a surveillance and monitoring method. Acceptable methods must demonstrate that they meet the appropriate SMPR, therefore, being reliable and reproducible when used by trained analysts in accredited laboratories.
Methods must be able to quantify furan, 2-methylfuran, 3-methylfuran, 2,5 dimethylfuran, 2-ethylfuran, and 2-pentylfuran in coffee, baby foods (including infant formula), cereals, and fruit juices as listed in Table 4 of the SMPR. Please refer to the SMPR for details.
Any analytical technique(s) that measures the analytes of interest and meets the method performance requirements in the SMPR for the Furan and Alkyl Furans in Coffee, Baby Foods, Infant Formula, Cereals, and Fruit Juices (Draft, Version 6) will be considered.
AOAC INTERNATIONAL METHOD SUBMISSION PROCESS:
AOAC invites method authors to submit their methods with no fee required. Interested method authors or developers should provide a copy of their proposed method, as well as any available data characterizing the analytical performance and scientific validity of the method in AOAC format as per the submission form.
Interested method authors looking for guidance and examples on formatting methods and manuscripts or other supporting information can find this at the Author Resource Center.
Ideal method submissions should include a well written method procedure and be accompanied by data or information supporting the method’s applicability and demonstrating the method’s ability to meet the criteria of the AOAC standard method performance requirements. Deadline to submit a method is October 31, 2019.
A copyright transfer form must also be completed for ALL method submissions (this is part of the submission form above). If the method has been previously published, permission must be obtained from the appropriate parties.
