AOAC INTERNATIONAL is currently seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of Senior Director, Laboratory Proficiency Testing Program. This position holds overall responsibility for planning, direction, and leadership of the AOAC Laboratory Proficiency Testing Program (LPTP) and participates in planning and development of new programs and activities throughout AOAC that integrate with the LPTP. The chosen candidate will be responsible for quality assurance and accreditation issues that relate to AOAC INTERNATIONAL (AOAC) business. He or she will ensure that the program remains compliant with A2LA accreditation requirements.

The Senior Director of the program will determine market needs and develop programs that respond to and satisfy those needs, while overseeing the pricing and maintaining financial viability of all programs within Proficiency Testing. This individual will serve as liaison between AOAC INTERNATIONAL and applicable accreditation bodies and Proficiency Testing providers as well as the AOAC authority for the Analytical Laboratory Accreditation Criteria Committee (ALACC), overseeing new editions and responses to frequently asked questions.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Senior Director, Laboratory Proficiency Testing Program will also include:

  • Ensuring that the program is ISO 17043 and ISO 13528 compliant
  • Analyzing financial performance of the program for viability
  • Overseeing financial health of the LPTP
  • Reviewing, planning, and maintaining program design and implementation
  • Conducting periodic market assessments regarding customer needs
  • Managing Proficiency Testing staff, including performance management and professional development
  • Auditing subcontractors of the program
  • Providing leadership and influence within the overall AOAC organization

Qualifications

Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director & Chief Science Officer, the Senior Director, Laboratory Proficiency Testing Program will be an integral part of the Science Programs senior management team. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in the life sciences or statistics. An advanced degree is preferred. He or she will also have an in-depth understanding of laboratory testing technology, including trends and vocabulary of laboratory operations, thorough knowledge of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards and guides as they relate to Proficiency Testing accreditation, and completion of ISO 17043 training. This candidate will also possess excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills and 10 or more years of relevant work experience. Experience working within a scientific association environment is a definite plus.
