AOAC Official Methods of Analysis℠ (OMA) Program
Determination of Acrylamide in Selected Food Products
AOAC INTERNATIONAL (AOAC) invites method developers to submit methods for consideration and possible evaluation through the AOAC Official MethodsSM program. Prospective methods must be able to quantitate acrylamide in potato products, baby food, bread, other cereal and bakery products, cocoa products, coffee, tea, herbs and spices (including their extracts and mixtures), dry pet food, and nuts using chromatographic separation with mass spectrometric detection as the primary analytical technique.
For the purpose of this call for methods, selected food products is defined as the food products or commodities specified in the published Standard Method Performance Requirements (SMPR®) for Acrylamide in Potato Products, Baby Food, Bread, Other Cereal and Bakery Products, Cocoa Products, Coffee, Tea, Herbs and Spices (Including Their Extracts and Mixtures), Dry Pet Food, and Nuts, AOAC 2022.006.
The intended use of any method meeting the SMPR is to establish a method for surveillance and monitoring by trained technicians. Acceptable methods must be reliable, repeatable, and ultimately reproducible when used by trained analysts in accredited laboratories.
Reference the draft SMPR for definitions of the various applicable commodities and the proposed method validation requirements for parameters such as analytical range, limit of quantitation, recovery, repeatability and reproducibility, system suitability and reference materials. Relevant methods with chromatographic separation with mass spectrometric detection that meets the method performance requirements is acceptable for consideration.
Interested method developers must provide their method and data demonstrating that the method can meet the performance requirements.
Method authors may submit methods for review to the Official Methods of Analysis℠ (OMA) program.
