On July 15, 2022, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed a rule to revoke its methods of analysis regulation. The proposed rule relates to FDA enforcement programs when the method of analysis is not prescribed in a regulation. FDA suggests the regulation is “unnecessary” as the agency’s preferred methods of analysis may be identified in other FDA compliance and laboratory procedures resources. With this proposed change, FDA believes current industry practices will largely be maintained. AOAC is reviewing the proposed rule and will respond to the agency before the comment period deadline of September 28, 2022.
