AOAC INTERNATIONAL is currently seeking an energetic Deputy Executive Director & Chief Science Officer (DEDCSO) to lead all science programs and projects at AOAC INTERNATIONAL (AOAC). This position serves as a primary interface with AOAC’s government, academic & industry stakeholders and partners. A major role of this position is to establish relationships with customers who operate at their organization’s strategic level and cultivate potential business relationships. The Deputy Executive Director & Chief Science Officer reaches out to the sectors of food safety and security through technology providers, CROs, academic institutions and government agencies, identifying opportunities for AOAC solutions – bringing government, academia & industry together so that they can realize their common goals through AOAC consensus processes. The DEDCSO serves as the primary point of contact in contract negotiations, bringing relevant parties together for input & final decisions. The DEDCSO also provides leadership in developing and executing AOAC scientific program strategy while overseeing the AOAC Research Institute, the Standards department and the Proficiency Testing program and guides the collaboration of each area to develop and support the strategic plan of AOAC.

The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in chemistry, microbiology or similar from an accredited college or university and 10 – 15 years of experience in the business dealings of a science-related organization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PhD is preferred. He or she will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable presenting to large and small audiences as well as reaching out to engage with high-level stakeholders. The successful candidate will be familiar with food safety-related U.S. and international government and non-government organizations. He or she will have strong project management skills and at least 10 years supervising science-oriented staff. With a strong business acumen, this candidate will have knowledge of standards development and conformity assessment processes and procedures.
