George Joseph currently serves as the Technical Manager at AsureQuality, a prominent New Zealand Government-owned enterprise based in Auckland. In his role, George oversees all technical aspects related to the company’s laboratory services. He is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of these services and offering expert support to operations across New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and other regions within the Asia-Pacific. AsureQuality offers world class food safety and biosecurity services to the food and primary production sectors worldwide. George plays a key role in ensuring the organization’s continued leadership and innovation in these sectors.
George has been a dedicated and passionate member of AOAC INTERNATIONAL for the past 14 years, actively participating in numerous AOAC initiatives. He currently serves on the AOAC Board of Directors and as Chair-Elect of the AOAC Official Methods Board (OMB). In 2018, George was named a Fellow of AOAC International and has received multiple awards recognizing his exceptional contributions. He was honoured with the AOAC OMB Awards for Achievement in Technical and Scientific Excellence in 2016, 2017, and 2020, as well as the AOAC ERP of the Year Awards in 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2024. Additionally, George has contributed to various working groups and served as MLT Study Director for AOAC Official Method 2016.02 for biotin.
Since 2014, George has served as a representative of New Zealand on the International Review Group (IRG) for the ISO/IDF Technical Committee (TC 34 / WG 14), which focuses on vitamins and other nutrients. He served as the ISO Study Director for the ISO TC 34 / WG 14 project on biotin, leading to the establishment of ISO standard 23305 in 2018. This biotin method is now recognized globally and has been adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission as a Type II dispute resolution reference standard.
In 2019, George was appointed as a Counsellor for the Food Standards Professional Committee of the China Society of Inspection and Quarantine (CSIQ). Over the years, he has received several Excellence Awards from his current employer, AsureQuality New Zealand. Additionally, George serves as a member of the Technical Advisory Group for Global Proficiency, New Zealand.
With a PhD earned in 1994, George brings over 30 years of experience in analytical chemistry applications.
