Official Methods Board Chair, 2022 – 2023

Melissa Phillips is a research chemist in the Chemical Sciences Division at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD. At NIST, Melissa has been responsible for the development of new analytical methods for the determination of marker compounds, vitamins, and contaminants in dietary supplements and foods. Melissa has been a co-coordinator of multiple NIST Quality Assurance Programs (QAPs), including those for dietary supplements, food nutrition and safety, and cannabis. Melissa has also co-coordinated the food nutrition and food safety reference materials program and is actively involved in AOAC, ASTM, and ISO. Melissa received a BS in Chemistry (Lyman Briggs School), an MS in Forensic Chemistry, and a PhD in Chemistry (Analytical) from Michigan State University.
