Editorial Board Member

Dr. Chyer Kim joined VSU-ARS in 2009 and served as a research specialist (2009-2015), Assistant Professor (2015-2021), and Associate Professor (2021-present) in the food safety and microbiology program at the Agricultural Research Station of College of Agriculture. He received his MS and Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in Food Science and Technology with a concentration in Food Safety and Microbiology. Dr. Kim has worked as a researcher and teacher in various capacities at the University of Georgia, North Carolina A&T State University, and Virginia State University. He endeavors to teach and train students on current and emerging food safety issues providing students conventional and advanced techniques in food safety analysis, empowering them to meet global societal needs. Some of his accomplishments in VSU alone include a grantsmanship over $6M, training and mentorship of more than 100 students consisting of dietetic interns, undergraduate, MS students, contribution to 55 scientific article publications in peer-reviewed journals, and numerous presentations at regional, national, and international meetings. He has also provided experiential education to pre-teens and teenagers who participated in USDA AgDiscovery and AgFest Field Day offered by VSU-ARS. He has also served as a reviewer on USDA NIFA grant programs and editorial board member on seven international journals reviewing more than 100 articles. Overall, recognizing the importance of food safety education toward students and stakeholders, he strives to improve the safety and quality of our region’s food supply integrating the 1890 Land-Grant mission through agricultural research, teaching and extension outreach.
