Dr. HDR. Eric Verdon graduated with his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Bordeaux – France in 1991. Engaged since 1993 as Research Scientist at the Laboratory for Veterinary Medicinal Products in Fougeres, France, a regulatory laboratory part of ANSES, the French Agency for Food, Environment and Occupational Health & Safety. His first scientific focus was on the Development of Analytical Methods using HPLC and LC-MS techniques and including new technologies such as High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry for the control of Veterinary Drug Residues, and particularly for Antibiotics, in various food commodities from animal origin like meat, milk, fish, eggs, honey. From 2007 to 2012, he has been heading a department of 20 Analytical Chemists and Biologists engaged in France in the National Reference Laboratory for the Veterinary Drug Residue Control of Food and particularly in networking analytical activities with the 25 French Official Control Field Laboratories. He was then appointed since 2012 the Head of the European Union Reference Laboratory for Antimicrobial and Dye Residues in Food, reference activity assigned by the European Commission to the Anses-Laboratory of Fougeres since 1993. The EU-RL and Eric’s main task was to continuously networking with the 27 EU Member States National Reference Laboratories acting in the field of Antimicrobial Veterinary Drug Residue Control in food from animal origin and with many other National Reference Laboratories worldwide. Eric has been publishing more than 150 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international Scientific Journals and also presenting more than 400 oral communications in various congresses, workshops, seminars/webinars, and symposia across the world. He is also the author of more than250 expert reports for various stakeholders at the French, European and International levels. Collaborating with the AOAC INTERNATIONAL since 2002, he is the recipient of the 2025 Harvey W. Wiley Award.
