Jamie (Joonyeong) Kim, Ph.D. is a Professor of Chemistry at Buffalo State, SUNY, where he has been a faculty member since 2005. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012 and to Full Professor in 2021. Dr. Kim earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Texas A&M University in 2005 and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley. Before joining Buffalo State, he was a joint National Research Council (NRC) research associate at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Dr. Kim teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in analytical and forensic chemistry. His research focuses on the chemical characterization of surfaces, adsorption phenomena, and the quantification of hydrocarbons and other volatile compounds using advanced analytical techniques. Beyond his research, Dr. Kim is deeply committed to mentoring undergraduate researchers, guiding them through hands-on projects in chemical analysis. His dedication to both scientific discovery and student development continues to advance the field of chemistry and inspire the next generation of scientists.
