Call for Papers: Special Issue on “State-of-the-Art Analytical Techniques for Mycotoxin Method Development in Food Safety”

Guest Editors: Raviraj Chandrakant Shinde and Pandit Shiragave

Mycotoxins, toxic secondary metabolites produced by certain fungi, represent a persistent threat to food safety, public health, and international trade. In the context of evolving challenges such as climate change, shifting agricultural practices, and complex global supply chains, the occurrence and diversity of mycotoxin contamination in food and feed are increasing. These dynamics highlight the urgent need for state-of-the-art advanced analytical tools and methodologies to ensure accurate detection, efficient decontamination, and effective risk assessment.

This Special Issue of the Journal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL seeks original research and review articles that showcase recent innovations and validated approaches in mycotoxin analysis—from sampling and detection to decontamination and regulatory alignment. The issue aims to serve as a key resource for scientists, regulatory bodies, and industry professionals working at the forefront of food safety.

The guest editors cordially invite experts in these up-and-coming fields to contribute and submit manuscripts showcasing recent and original research that advances the field and aligns with the scope of this issue.

This special issue will cover the following topics:

1. Advances in Analytical Techniques for the analysis of Mycotoxins

  • Development and validation of rapid, robust, and high-throughput methods (HPLC-DAD, FLD, LC-MS/MS, HRMS, etc.)
  • Portable and on-site detection technologies

2. Sampling Methods for Mycotoxin

  • Approaches to reduce heterogeneity and improve representativeness
  • Statistical designs and tools for improved sampling accuracy

3. Decontamination of Mycotoxins

  • Physical, chemical, and biological strategies for mycotoxin decontamination in food and feed
  • Studies on thermal processing, fermentation, and biodegradation of mycotoxins
  • Impact of food processing on mycotoxin fate and toxicity

To submit your manuscript, please visit the submission portal and select the appropriate special issue from the dropdown menu. Be sure to follow the journal’s Author Guidelines regarding formatting, ethical standards, and scope. All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review.

Please clearly state in your cover letter that your submission is for the special section titled: “State-of-the-Art Analytical Techniques for Mycotoxin Method Development in Food Safety.”

All manuscripts will undergo peer review and, upon acceptance, will be published as part of the Guest Editor Section.

The call for papers is open until Sunday, March 15, 2026. Interested parties should contact [email protected].
