John Szpylka is a retired analytical chemist with over 28 years of experience in the food industry and food testing arena. Most recently, John was the Chemistry R&D Manager for Food Safety Net Services, while continuing his involvement with many scientific associations. Previously, John was with Mérieux NutriSciences after serving 20 years with General Mills as a Principal Scientist.
John is an AOAC Fellow and previously served as President, President-Elect, and Secretary on the AOAC INTERNATIONAL Board of Directors. He is a past chair of the AOAC Official Methods Board. He currently chairs several AOAC committees, including the Non-Targeted Testing Food Authenticity Working Group, ALACC, ALACC Chemistry Sub-Committee, and the Allergens by Mass Spec Expert Review Panel. John is also a member of the TDRM Executive Committee, TDLM Executive Committee, and many Stakeholder Panels, ERPs, and working groups. He also served as AOAC Midwest Section President. John is active in other organizations, including American Association, of Cereal Chemists (chair of Carbohydrates & Fiber Technical Division), ASTA Food Safety Committee and Method Subcommittee, and AAFCO (Methods Committee consultant).
