Dr. Xu-Liang Cao is a senior research scientist with the Food Research Division of the Bureau of Chemical Safety at Health Canada. His research focuses on identification, determination, and dietary exposure assessment of food packaging organic chemicals occurring in food supply. Major activities include development and validation of new methods for investigation of various chemical safety issues and analysis of such chemicals in food samples from national surveys programs, migration studies of organic chemicals from food packaging materials into foods, and dietary exposure assessment with food occurrence and consumption data.
Dr. Cao is a recognized expert in the field of analytical chemistry and analytical methods for food packaging chemicals with over 80 publications in refereed journals. He participated on the AOAC Expert Review Panel for BPA Methods in 2017, and the FAO/WHO Expert Meeting to review toxicological and health aspects of BPA in 2010. Dr. Cao is the adjunct research professor with the chemistry department of Carleton University, and he is in the 2023 – 2027 FAO Roster of Experts for the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA). Dr. Cao joined the Journal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL in 2020 as the section editor, and has been the Editor-in-Chief since 2022.
