AOAC INTERNATIONAL (AOAC) is looking for an ambitious recent graduate or senior undergraduate student to join our Proficiency Testing Dept. as a full-time, paid internship. This is a highly sought after opportunity in which you can start your career at a very well-known 140-year-old standards association (Founded in 1884). This position is scheduled to last throughout the academic year, and this person may be considered for full time employment after the internship is completed. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with great attention to detail, who possesses the knowledge and skills obtained through upper-level college/university classes such as chemistry and microbiology in the areas of Food Science and/or Cannabis and Hemp Science. The hourly pay rate will range from $17.00 to $19.00 per hour. This temporary position is not benefits-eligible. Preference will be given to applicants who apply by Friday, July 18, 2025.
AOAC’s Laboratory Proficiency Testing (PT) program helps labs compete in the global marketplace by demonstrating that they meet the highest international standards for accuracy, reliability, and compliance. Basic duties include:
- Provide basic technical responses with regards to micro or chem analyses to participating labs
- Ensure homogeneity and stability reports are sent from test material provider labs, and meet appropriate requirements
- Learn to interpret PT results and the evaluations provided by the program (Z-scores etc)
- Generate 30- and 10-day participating labs lists and provide to the test material provider during each round.
- Shipping Documentation-prepare documentation including Dangerous Goods on FedEx ship manager software, generate International commercial invoices and domestic forms
- Ensure technical instructions for analysis are approved 10 days prior to a shipment date and added to the PT website instructions prior to test initiation.
- Send email blast to all participating laboratories 5 days prior to an upcoming shipment.
- Initiate test rounds in PT website
- Communicate 72-hour extensions for all participating labs that did not submit results, the day after the initial due date (extend in PT website which will send lab and email from [email protected] and contact via phone)
- Provide support to participating labs re: how to report or general questions about the round
- Close Test Rounds in PT website and generate data from the round
- Generate expected results and send to Sr Director and Manager for approval for each program that applies
- Save expected results on appropriate server and email EAS to process results.
- Ensure stability is provided by test material provider no later than 10 days after a PT round closes.
- Prepare technical reports and sent to Sr Director and Manager for approval
- Issue final technical reports and laboratory results on PT website
- Set up committee meetings for PT (Advisory, Oversight, Task Forces)
- Provide overall administrative support to LPTP department
- PT Invoices-send, receive, process payments, process through Imis AMS
- Send renewal emails on the first of each month (30, 60, 90 & 120 day)
- New Enrollments-receive application, entering lab in database (iMIS and PT website), send program details and invoices
- Provide answers to accounting inquiries and complete questionnaires for participating laboratories
