AOAC INTERNATIONAL is inviting stakeholder comments on a proposed correction to AOAC SMPR® 2025.003, Standard Method Performance Requirements (SMPRs®) for Determination of Selected Trace Elements in Food and Beverages.
The SMPR establishes performance requirements for methods used to quantify selected trace elements in food and beverage matrices, including infant formula. These requirements include limits of quantitation, recovery, repeatability, and reproducibility.
Table 2, Recovery, Repeatability, and Reproducibility, specifies the concentration ranges and corresponding performance requirements. AOAC proposes a correction to the first concentration range in Table 2, which will read <10 µg/kg.
This correction is limited to the first concentration range in Table 2. It clarifies the applicable performance requirements and does not change the intended use, matrices, analytical techniques, or status of the SMPR.
This Revision Notice initiates a 10-business-day comment period. The revised SMPR, with the proposed correction shown as a tracked change, is available for stakeholder review.
Interested parties may submit comments during the posting period using the Comment Form provided with this notice. If no comments opposing the correction are received, the correction will take effect upon the close of the comment period. The published version of AOAC SMPR® 2025.003 will then be updated to reflect the corrected first concentration range of <10 µg/kg.
Deadline for comments: Friday, November 13, 2026
Comments may be submitted using the Comment Form.
