AOAC INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: Committee on Method Validation Guidance and Criteria (CMVGC) Seeking Committee Members, including Committee Leadership
ABOUT THE COMMITTEE
The Committee on Method Validation Guidance and Criteria (CMVGC) is an AOAC INTERNATIONAL volunteer committee established to develop, maintain, and harmonize AOAC’s method validation guidance across the Official MethodsSM Program. CMVGC volunteers support scientifically robust, consistent, and modernization-aligned expectations for Single-Laboratory Validation (SLV) and Multi-Laboratory Validation (MLV) studies.
AOAC is seeking qualified subject matter experts to serve as CMVGC Members and is also accepting nominations for CMVGC Chair and Chair-elect. Committee members provide strategic, scientific, and governance support to help ensure that AOAC validation expectations are clear, current, and consistently applied throughout the OMA lifecycle.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, review, and refine AOAC SLV and MLV validation guidance, acceptance criteria, templates, checklists, and training materials.
- Evaluate validation parameters and identify gaps, outdated practices, or inconsistencies in existing guidance.
- Support consistent application of validation guidance across candidate method submission, First Action, Final Action, Periodic Review, and repeal activities.
- Provide validation interpretation and recommendations to the Official Methods Board, Method Committees, Expert Review Panels, AOAC staff, and related committees.
- Coordinate with the Committee on Statistics, Committee on Safety and Security, Method Committees, and other stakeholders to support harmonized guidance.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Analytical method validation expertise in SLV, MLV, study design, performance characteristics, and acceptance criteria.
- Familiarity with AOAC processes, the OMA lifecycle, collaborative study principles, and modernization priorities.
- Strong scientific writing and critical review skills with the ability to synthesize complex input into clear, actionable guidance.
- Collaborative leadership and advisory approach across sectors, scientific domains, committees, and stakeholder groups.
- AOAC INTERNATIONAL membership in good standing.
CMVGC is a standing scientific committee sized to support balanced expertise across sectors, geographic regions, and method domains. Committee membership is vetted and approved by the Official Methods Board.
- Positions open: Chair, Chair-elect, and Committee Members.
- Committee size: Up to twelve members total, inclusive of the Chair and Chair-elect.
- Time commitment: Approximately 6–12 hours per month for the Chair and Chair-elect; approximately 5–10 hours per month for Members.
- Term length: Three-year terms beginning and ending at the AOAC Annual Business Meeting.
- Service: Volunteer, uncompensated; follows AOAC policies on conflict of interest, confidentiality, scientific integrity, governance, and conduct.

- Submit a current CV highlighting scientific background, method validation experience, related publications, any related standards-development experience, and affiliations.
- For Chair or Chair-elect applicants: include a brief description of leadership experience in method validation and standards development related to method validation, committee facilitation, or related scientific governance activities.
