AOAC INTERNATIONAL (AOAC) invites method developers to submit methods for consideration and possible evaluation through the AOAC Official Methods℠ program.
Prospective methods must be able to distinguish intact MFGM proteins from their hydrolyzed forms, and quantify all, or as many as possible, bovine milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) proteins, in addition to bovine MFGM proteins using the same method when possible in infant, adult, and/or pediatric formulas as described in the recently approved Standard Method Performance Requirements AOAC SMPR®2024.006. The deadline for submission is Friday, September 5, 2025.
An eligible method must meet the various parameters outline in the SMPR® and must be reliable, repeatable, and ultimately reproducible when used by trained analysts in accredited laboratories. The intent of the method is to establish a reference method for compliance with relevant regulatory agencies.
Reference the AOAC SMPR® 2024.006 for definitions and the proposed method validation requirements for parameters such as analytical range, limit of quantification, recovery, repeatability and reproducibility, system suitability, and reference materials. Any analytical technique that meets the method performance requirements is acceptable.
Interested method developers must provide their method and accompanying data demonstrating that the method can meet the performance requirements.
Method authors may submit methods for review to the Official Methods of Analysis℠ (OMA) program.
Candidate methods must be submitted in AOAC OMA format, and the data submitted as a manuscript in Journal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL format, NO EXCEPTIONS.
Method safety must also be included for submission.
If you need assistance with putting your method or data into format AOAC provides a formatting consulting service for a fee.
Journal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL Manuscript Format Guide
For first action methods, full single laboratory validation is required followed by a reproducible study for final action consideration.
Applications fees are applicable to rapid commercial proprietary methods only.
Methods and manuscripts must be submitted by September 5, 2025.
